Tiangong-1 launched ..

Post by brian livesey »

Yesterday, China launched its Tiangong-1 ( Heavenly Palace-1 ) into orbit from the Gobi desert ( but without the Emperor and his heavenly concubines onboard  ), in a 220 miles high orbit .
The 8-tonne/9m long vessel is a rendezvous and docking test-bed for a 60-tonne space station, expected to be completed by 2022.
To-day's GUARDIAN says, "Though the hardware is based primarily on Russian technology, China says it has enhanced navigation and other systems".
Another vessel, Shenzhou 8, will soon be launched and an attempt will be made to link up with Tiangong-1.
