Help Please - Astronomy Apps For Samsung Tablet

Post by G Burt »

Dear All,

I've just acquired a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 tablet and the first thing I did was download an app called The Night Sky.

For some reason, the display shows the horizon at a right-angle to the screen, whether you hold it as portrait or landscape format. If I turn the GPS/Compass off the horizon appears on screen as horizontal but then you have to slew around the display manually.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong or can anyone recommend another astronomy app?

Best Wishes,

Geoff

Hi,
Sorry can't suggest any apps for your phone (not very 'up' on this kind of thing) but I find Googlesky very good on my Android, not sure if it would work on your phone.

Best app for android id Mobile Observatory, it will cost you about £2.00 if that and has everything you could want including a stellar database to 11th or 12th magnitude.

I havent used this software but looked on the Apps website under the Android part & found this :-
If your orientation is incorrect, go to settings in The Night Sky app, tap the new 'Rotate Orientation' button. Keep tapping this button until your orientation is corrected. Sorry for problems in previous builds.
.
Could be a visible 'button' or one as a drop down menu using the 'three dots' that may be on your screen somewhere (Often top RH corner or at the base of the screen).
Hope this helps :)

Hi Daniela

An APK file is an app created for Android, Google's mobile operating system. Some apps come pre-installed on Android devices, while other apps can be downloaded from Google Play. Apps downloaded from Google Play are automatically installed on your device, while those downloaded from other sources must be installed manually.

So Skysafari 6 is available from GooglePlay
