Moon & Jupiter & a mystery star
Last evening, 14th May 2016, at a little before, 22.00 hrs BST , Moon & Jupiter seen as a nice "pair"........also then noticed, in 50mm spotting scope, a star near to the dark limb of the Moon, the star finally being cut off at 2158-ish by that limb. Not having this year's BAA Handbook and finding nothing listed in the SPA Occ pages on this site, can someone tell me what star this was please. regards maf
Re: Moon & Jupiter & a mystery star
That was probably 48 Leonis. See here https://www.britastro.org/node/7336 . I remembered the event too late while checking the sky (cloud level out) up here in West Yorkshire. Life is fun when you love astronomy and gardening. Currently in fear of late frosts for the sensitive stuff but clear sky for astro !

Mike: 48 Leonis is ZC 1549 according to the "Zodiacal Atlas 2000.0", mag. +5.17.
