The SPA in Stirling

SPA event in Stirling Friday 22nd - Sunday 24th February 2008 in conjunction with the Stirling Astronomical Society (SAS). This starts with Friday night tours of Stirling’s Old High School Historic Telescope (installed 1889) ; email publicity@popastro.com to reserve your place.

Saturday’s main events are being held at the Albert Halls, Albert Place, Stirling with free entry to the event and starting at 10:00. The main lecture entitled ‘The Dark side of the Universe’ will be given by Iain Nicolson with other lectures given by Professor Ian Morison (Jodrell Bank) and Dr Dan Hillier (Royal Observatory Edinburgh). To reserve your free ticket for the main lecture and ensure a seat email secretary@popastro.com . Confirmed trade stands include Aurora Books, Strathspey binoculars, Astronomica, Armagh Planetarium, Galloway Astronomy Centre, the Open University and Dark Skies Scotland. There will be plenty of opportunity to visit the SPA merchandise stand, investigate ‘Rocks from Space’ with Dr Vic Pearson of PSSRI, the Open University, meet Chief Stargazer Emily Baldwin from the SPA’s young stargazers section with her impact cratering demonstration as well as other demonstrations.

Saturday evening the SAS will lead an observing session at the David Marshall Lodge, Aberfoyle, to reserve a coach place (small charge to cover costs) email publicity@popastro.com by16th February.

On Sunday meet at Glasgow’s Science Centre at 10:30 for a reduced price entry ticket of £5 has been arranged to includes a planetarium show at 11:00 and entry to the Science centre for the rest of the day. To reserve a £5 ticket email publicity@popastro.com by 19th February.
