2012 Benjamin Franklin House Annual Symposium at the British Library: Chasing Venus by Andrea Wulf

Please find below and attached details of an upcoming lecture which may be of interest to SPA forum members.

The lecture will take place on Monday 24 September, 6.30-8.30pm at the British Library Conference Centre, 96 Euston Road, London NW1 2DB. Award-winning author Andrea Wulf will tell the extraordinary story of the first global scientific collaboration set amid warring armies, hurricanes, scientific endeavour, and personal tragedy. On 6 June 1761 and 3 June 1769 the planet Venus passed between Earth and Sun – each time visible as a small black dot against the burning face of the Sun for six hours. Andrea will reveal the spirit of the Enlightenment and man’s quest to understand the world.
