Events at INTECH (Winchester) 2011

Post by INTECH Planetarium »

Hi everyone, here's the latest run-down on astro events here at the INTECH Science Centre & Planetarium, Winchester.

This is a quick run-down of what's on, see our events calendar at http://www.intech-uk.com/folders/visitor_info/events/ for more details and links to the webpages for each event.

Until 4th Sept: Live planetarium shows
We have loads of live shows this summer, including "Flight Through the Universe". This show is great for adults and has been scheduled into the 4:30pm slot where you can pay just 4.75 for a planetarium-only ticket. These shows usually run sporadically at weekends depending on presenter availability.

Until 24th Aug: Moles: what is out there?
Planetarium film show for the under-8's, following a little mole as he finds out about the night sky. Here Mon/Tues/Weds 12:30pm until 24 August.

9th Aug, 18th Aug & 26th Aug: Beginners' stargazing talks
Join David Harris in our meeting room for a gentle introduction to stargazing, including tips for viewing the Moon. Free with admission, 30min sessions but David is happy to stay to chat afterwards too.

14th Aug: Solar telescopes
Newbury Astronomy Society are bringing a number of specially adapted solar telescopes for our visitors to safely view the Sun. Free with admission. Standard warning applies - don't try this at home as without appropriate training & specialist kit you will likely blind yourself.

18th Aug: Subtitled planetarium show
We will be running our popular family show (good for all ages) "Astronaut" with large-font subtitles.

31st Aug: Subtitled & signed planetarium show
A specially adapted version of our most popular show (great for adults) "Flight Through the Universe", with subtitles and BSL-signing. This show is eligible for our 'planetarium-only' ticket rate.

14th Sept: Lecture - Collecting Rocks in Space (Matthew Genge)
Evening lecture for adults. We recomend pre-booking as these lectures often sell out.

Good news: our Adult Evenings are ready to go!

First one is Weds 5th October (during World Space Week), then Thurs 3 Nov & 1 Dec. Come and see adult-appropriate planetarium shows, hear short lectures, chat to scientists or just enjoy having a play on our exhibits without having to let the kids have a turn!

These are also a cheap way to see the centre/planetarium if you don't have kids.

Details here:

Hope to see you there!
