Post by The Bat »

STARFEST

North Essex Astronomical Society will be hosting an all day astronomy convention on Saturday 19 November 2011 at the Alec Hunter Humanities College, Braintree.

We have a line up of excellent speakers including:

Kelvin Long - "Interstellar Travel, Project Icarus and Flying Closer to Another Star"
Dr Stuart Clark - "The Sky's Dark Labyrinth"
Andy Green - "Impacts"
Pete Lawrence - "Observing the Northern Lights From Your Own Back Garden"
Final speaker TBC as Paul Abel has unfortunately had to drop out.

Doors will open at 09.00 with talks beginning at approx 09.45.

There will also be trade stands and exhibits including Nik Szymanek, Ian King Imaging, Green Witch, SpaceRocks UK and Telescope House, along with displays of astrophotography, model spacecraft, a book signing by Dr Stuart Clark and a Formula 1 simulator.
Weather permitting, we hope to have some solar observing during the breaks with specialist solar telescopes.

The event will feature the inaugural Les Sayer Memorial Lecture, in honour of our society's late president.

Tickets are available now, priced £12 each*. More details can be found on our website. We hope to see some of you there.

Rachel

* A £0.75 charge applies if paying by Paypal to cover processing fees. Cash and cheques are also accepted.

Just under a week to go until STARFEST on 19 November.

There are still tickets available and we can now confirm that it will also be possible to purchase tickets on the door on the day (subject to availability).

This is the first of what we hope may become an annual event so please come along and support us.

We look forward to welcoming you on the day.

Rachel

A big thank you to any of you who came to support STARFEST yesterday. We think the event was a big success, with excellent speakers, trade stands and exhibits. :)
It was an enjoyable day for astronomers and has been great publicity for the society.
Any feedback from anyone who attended is greatly appreciated, either here or on our website, as this will help shape the event if we decide to run it again next year.
