Hi everyone, here's a run-down of events at INTECH over the coming months.

SPACE LECTURES

Aimed at adults (min age 11yr), these are hugely popular so please do pre-book as we seldom have tickets available on the door. Excellent speakers including Robin Catchpole and Jocelyn Bell-Burnell. Prices are £6/£5, with a 5-for-4 ticket deal. Lectures are 6:30pm on the 2nd Weds, except Sept (3rd Weds) and Nov (8:30pm).

TELESCOPE AMNESTY
Weds Nov 11th
Bring your telescope/binoculars to get advice from regional astronomy societies, or have a go with theirs. Free observing/advice sessions followed by the Nov Space Lecture (a full planetarium show about what you can look out for in the sky, with accompanying images) at 8:30pm.

If you or your astro soc are interested in volunteering to be part of the Telescope Amnesty, please get in touch! This event wouldn't exist without your support. Contact Jenny at <jennyshipway@intech-uk.com>.

PLANETARIUM SHOWS
We have some new planetarium shows since I last posted here! Of most interest to you guys would be "We are Astronomers" which is a hugely stylish exploration of the world of the modern astronomer, with sections about the James Webb Telescope and LHC. We got great feedback from astro soc members who attended the previews.

Other shows are "The Enchanted Reef", our summer special which is a fun/silly kid's story about some talking fish(!) and live shows with our new guest presenters Carol (Hampshire Astronomical Group) and Kyle (crazy ubiquitous American).

Carol is doing a gentle tour of the planets and Kyle is thinking about how our definition of "planet" has changed over the years as we have learned more about what's out there. They are both using our real-time Uniview software to create amazing visuals.

Hope to see you soon!

PS: For anyone who hasn't been, we have a 17-metre fulldome planetarium with amazing state-of-the-art digital projection set-up and cinema-grade surround-sound system. The planetarium seats 176 in comfy reclining seats with headrests. This is a world-class facility and definitely worth a visit!

PPS: We also have a science centre with about 100 hands-on exhibits.

Oops! Forgot to mention our participation in World Space Week - public days are 3rd & 4th October. There will be large displays from Astrium (should include the prototype ExoMars rover "Bridget"), special planetarium shows, stuff from regional universities, water-rockets and all sorts. Pretty much everything is free with a ticket to INTECH, except the planetarium shows which are charged at the normal rate.

And now I can confirm that Jon Tickle will be launching our World Space Week celebrations at 10:30am on Saturday 3rd. Also we will have Rebel Legion who dress as characters from Star Wars! Should be a great weekend.

AND....!

After the success of our November Telescope Amnesty (see above), the next will be on Wednesday 27th January. We hope to again welcome Pete & Ninian from the BBC Sky at Night team for the planetarium show the same evening.

Yes I think a few failed to get here because of the snow :(

Good to hear you have tickets for Jocelyn's talk - this is likely to be one that sells out early.

In other news:

If anyone has kids then watch out for some space-themed storytelling sessions in the planetarium on 16/17th April (Easter holidays). Details tbc but should be good! Likely to be more made-up stories than science, but hope it will still be inspirational.

Also we will be hosting the poetry/astronomy/theatre event "How not to be Afraid of the Dark", featuring Jocelyn again, on Sat 11th Sept. Again all details tbc so check the website closer to date.
