Since its arrival at Mars in late 2003, the European Space Agency's planetary probe, Mars Express, has been working for longer than expected. The project was meant to last for two years, but the probe is still working; however, with four of its six gyroscopes failing, the mission will end in 2019.
To ensure that Mars Express remains stable until its demise, controllers at the ESA will remotely update the probe's software.
