Late tonight or earlier tomorrow the armour-shielded Juno probe should be inserted into orbit around Jupiter, after its 1.4 million miles journey from Earth. The probe will orbit the gas giant for two years at a distance of just 2,900 miles, to analyse Jupiter's gravity, magnetic field, radiation, watern and raging 384 mph winds, etc.
Water is one of the most important issues. Nasa scientist Dr. Steve Levin said: The amount of water inside Jupiter is crucial to an understanding of how the solar system was formed ... If Jupiter formed far from the Sun, where it is cold, out of blocks of ice, you would get a different amount of water inside Jupiter than if it formed closer to the Sun than it is now."

Maybe 1.4 billion miles?

Juno has successfully entered orbit around Jupiter on time 8) . Assuming that the probe can withstand the harsh environment, we should be in for some spectacular images of the planet's dynamic atmosphere.
