On August 6, the European Space Agency's Rosetta probe will reach and begin to orbit Comet 67 Churyumov-Gerasimenko.
Interestingly, Rosetta's latest images of the comet show this object to be a contact binary, looking very much like a waisted potato.
More information available on www.spaceweather.com .

...or possibly a rubber duck, with its head called 'Klim' and its body called 'Svetlana'?

Today's www.spaceweather.com shows the comet from a distance of 1000 kilometres. Some have complained that the ESA is holding back its best images. ESA replied that it doesn't want others to produce scientific papers until its own scientific team has done so.

Hi All,

I don't quite understand this statement on the Space Weather website;

"The temperature data show that 67P is too hot to be covered in ice and must instead have a dark, dusty crust."

Does this mean that 67P's surface temperature is above freezing? If so, how is it that warm? :shock:

Best Wishes,

Geoff :)

There looks to be several promising ski slopes, if we don't mind taking off into orbit.
