Colin Pillinger was on radio last night being interviewed about the Beagle 2 failure. Contrary to what some of us had thought, the lander was well-engineered and also tested.
Pillinger claimed that the lander was sent to Mars at the wrong time. He said that the planet's atmosphere was too hot and turbulent during the descent, and that this probably affected the performance of the parachute system.
Oh well, the inquest will probably keep going for some time.
