Looks like you picked the wrong astronaut, Eddie. It was Alan Shepard who flew in Freedom 7. :wink:

Hi, I'm new to the forum. Glad to be here.

I remember this one well.

Someone (likely one of the teachers) brought a TV into the school auditorium for us all to watch. I remember waiting a long time for the mercury redstone to get off the pad.

After the auditorium had been cleared and the TV returned, I remember walking up to the stage where the TV had sat and touching the spot. History had been made that day, and I had witnessed it. Funny thing is, I almost forgot that it was my birthday that day. A year later, my father was working near Washington, D.C. for a NASA contractor (Documentation Incorporated). That was very cool. 8)
