The fading star

Post by brian livesey »

Researchers have established the reason why red supergiant, Betelgeuse, faded in 1990. As was suspected at the time, it was indeed caused by stardust that partially obscured the star. Some thought the reason for the dimming was that Betelgeuse was about to explode as a supernova. The study is published in the journal NATURE.
