Pop Astro Live 20200212 SKA Science Book

Post by JohnM »

This has been moved from the general section - hopefully the first of many

During last night's Pop Astro Live there was a brief mention of the Square Kilometer Array Science book that discusses the (known) science that will be enhanced by SKA observations.

The book itself is in 2 volumes running to 2000 pages however it can be downloaded from the SKA site at https://www.skatelescope.org/books/ .

A bit more friendly than ploughing through the whole book the individual chapters are avaialble at https://pos.sissa.it/cgi-bin/reader/conf.cgi?confid=215. The chapters include one on SETI amongst others.

It will be interesting to see if the SKA finds unknown unknowns, to some extent this is unlikely as the supercomputers in the correlators have to be programmed to look for things we already know about.
