Brian, the predicted event will fall within the observing field of the SPA binocular variable star AF Cygni. I derive data as follows:
KIC9832227 (the "boom star") RA 19h 29m 15.95s, dec +46 37' 19.88s (Kinemuchi 2013).
AF Cygni RA 19h 30m 12.85s, dec +46 08' 52.08s (simbad)
All positions epoch 2000.

Seems like Robert Browning predicted this in his poem
"How they brought the good news from Ghent to Aix".

Third verse -
"’T was moonset at starting; but while we drew near
Lokeren, the cocks crew and twilight dawn’d clear;
At Boom, a great yellow star came out to see,.."

It will interesting to see if the 'Boom' star turns out to be
"a great yellow star"

I for one will not hold my breath awaiting this long-term "prediction", for a time-related, single event, for five years into the future which "has a million-to-one" chance of discovery"! Because: (a) it will not happen, (b) it will be too faint, (c) it will occur during a particularly cloudy spell, (d) I may no longer exist! I checked the source given and wondered about the mention of "two stars colliding"!! and what that business about "the three wise men & the star" and "epiphany"really had to do with it anyway! This was explained in various added comments that the discovering observatory is at a religious college, and also pointed out (in jest, I imagine) that if it failed to occur, the discoverer might well be "burnt at the stake" !
Currently, with this terrible gloomy weather in the UK (or should it be dis-UK?), skywatching is pretty dead...and we seem to be drifting into a "silly season" - "Boom Star"- indeed!

Cheer up Mike, it might happen....And now for the happy news, it looks like we are going to return to arctic weather next week, so here's hoping for clear skies and thermal undies!
Kind thoughts, Bob
