Hi Guys
Can someone (in the know) let me know the benefits of the Altair GPCAM AR0130C COLOUR over the Philips SPC900NC Webcam for Planetary and Lunar imaging.
Your replies would be very much appreciated.
Thanks
Graham

This cam uses the same sensor as my asi120MC, which has proved to be a great planetary camera (although it is now superceded by later models). It would take years for me to explore it's full potential.

These are the main comparisons/points I would make with the spc900nc:

although using CMOS technology the sensor has high quantum efficiency (75% QE in green)

smaller pixels (3.5micron vs 5 micron for 900nc) give highest image resolution at shorter focal ratio (f10 works well with 3.5microns, f20/25 required with 5 microns)

USB1 interface on the 900nc limits downloads to 10fps/8bit at 640x480 even then with some compression losses. USB2 on the GPCAM allows 100fps/12bit at 640x480 ROI uncompressed. Much better for catching moments of best seeing.

GPCAM has bigger chip/ wider available FOV, better for lunar/solar imaging.

GPCAM can be used for long-exposure work (800secs exposure?) Can dabble with DSO imaging. spc900 max is 1/25 sec unless LX moded.

Of course the GPCAM works with all the latest OS's (manufacturers claim).

Well that's a start,
