Hi Andy/all,

The School transmission for Friday 7th Sep. is back on again (don't yet know all the details but the extra EVA has been a success). Won't be able to listen in to this one myself but will be listening in on Sunday morning.
Andy I have used Orbitron but I mainly use CalSky now (also seem to get more Iridium flare predictions on their aswell (compared to HA)). :)

2012 Sept 07. Listened on 145.800 from about 09.52 to 10.01 BST Yupi 7100 standard antenna.
Heard several changes in carrier wave. The background interference drastically quietened.
At about 09.56 1/2 heard 3 brief faint to medium broadcasts by woman speaking english. Heard over period of about a mniute.
Rather disappointing, but heard the odd sentence but no complete section.
My watch is not accurate. I will now check it.

My watch was 2 seconds out.
Two of the transmissions were at 9.56.27 seconds BST and 9.57.09 BST. Corrected times.
At least that is when I looked at the watch. The transmissions where I heard the lady speaking were brief and I could not get the whole answer she gave.

Hi David,
At least you managed to catch something :) . The pass on Sunday is a lot higher so hopefully it will be a clearer transmission.

2012 Sept 09 09.48 to 0958 BST listened on 145.800 with Yupi 7100 standard antenna.
Carrier wave changes at 09.51 1/2 09.52 very faint voice. 09.53 faint female voice but still too faint to understand.
09.54 to 09.56 1/2 BST heard very well.
The lady discussed her day. times she got up maybe 6 a.m? 8 hour day. finished 8 p.m.?
Space station can be rotated but not moved far.
Earth looks very peaceful.
At 09.56 1/2 BST became a bit noisy and nothing further heard.
Long transmission with 2 1/2 minutes heard very well.

Hi Davd/All,

Heard first transmission at 09.53.40s (Sunita Williams US astronaut) but only for about a minute and wasn't very clear (I've heard better than this when the ISS has been lower than this 30deg pass). Was using the outdoor discone ariel, will check this out although the previous pass (packet) was very clear at an elevation of only 8 deg.

Well done, David and Dave. Didn't do so well here - suddenly thought to myself about midday-ish yesterday: "There was something I was going to do today ... now what was it?" ... then - D'oh! - it hit me as I saw the scanner sitting on the side. Life's a bit too busy or I'm a bit too forgetful at the moment - both amount to the same thing though!

Glad to read that you both had some success though. :)

Hi Andy, Tim, and David,

Not been able to do much listening in lately so it's good to know you guys are having some success. There will be a school contact tomorrow morning (Thurs 13th) at 08.15 BST approx. Wont hear this one myself but would be interested if anyone else manages anything. Sunita Williams will be speeaking with students in Germany.

2012 Sept 13 Switched on 8. 14 1/2 BST 145.800 Yupi 7100 standard antenna.
08.15 onwards four well separated loudish pings.
8.15 58 secs. heard faint voice.
8.16.14 heard faint female english answer.
8.16.29 loud speech
8.18 suddenly tailed off.
8.18 3/4 very faint voice after fairly long gap.
Switched off 8.21 1/2 BST

American lady heard faintly, then loudly then VERY LOUD.

she talked about what type of person an astronaut has to be.
Able to get on with others. Good health, athletic?
Heard her voice transmission very clearly.
Cannot remember other answers.

Good session but not very long.

Hi David,

Yes well done, glad you managed to hear a good clear transmission. Anther one I will miss is on the 19th Sep. (Wednesday). Will be a Polish school at 08.15 BST aprox. Might be a bit low for the UK but will be a challenge I think. Well worth a go.

2012 Sept 19 ISS 145.800 Yupi 7100 standard antenna. Switched on 08.13 1/2 BST Already pings and very faint voice maybe MALE? 8.13. 52 sec 'Train, over'
Forgot DF
That is a very tough question. How far can we float away. Very dangerous Tether we have SAFER, a back pack with jet? fuel.
Debris if outside. some protection?
inside ? water tanks? provide protection against debris 1cm if hit? hull or thick wall provides some protection and we go there if solar flare.
Radiation, solar flare protection solar flare.
He may have said? if necessary we could go into Soyuz? maybe to escape radiation/solar flare.
Right now my colleague Sunita? is looking out of window we are over Germany 8.18 1/2 BST.
We can communicate in English or Russian. We train?together? 8.19 BST
8.19 1/2 to 8. 19 3/4 faded.
Switched off 8.21 BST.
Some of the above is paraphrased.

Initially very faint, then faint, eventually quite loud, then loud and clear.
I heard a lot of answers.
Maybe I should get a tape recorder. Sorry for all the question marks. I was writing notes with right hand and trying to hold Yupi with right hand up to window indoors. Cannot write with left hand. Even with right hand I cannot read my scribbling sometimes.
I do have an old tape recorder but I am lazy and anyway a lot was difficult to hear everything.
He may be a Russian? with very good somewhat American accent.

Cloudless, very sunny out about 10C.
Sun was boiling a bit earlier when very low using PST 32x.

Hi David,
Thanks for the report, glad you managed to hear something. (I'm a bit out of touch with most things now since starting new job). The questions from the students are usually on the ARISS site but todays questions have already been taken off. Found the questions here ... might be helpful.
