The SUN - 17th May

Post by Cliff »

17th May - a frustrating afternoon. I eventually imaged the Sun in White Light via our W facing back bedroom window when it appeared in a cloud gap.
Ironically in the evening the Sun was revealed with no cloud interference but I'd had more than enough by then.
However, I thought the little I did get was quite interesting - An obvious though modest Sunspot with penumbra towards the Sun's W-S-W Limb & another less obvious apparent Sunspot on the Sun's N-N-E Limb.
Best of luck from Cliff

I got the obvious one (12822) at 1137UT, but I didn't see the other one. Mind you I've barely seen the Sun this month!

Hello Cliff, I didn’t notice that spot right on the following limb when I looked much earlier that day. You were lucky enough to catch it just as it was making an appearance. This morning 18/5 it showed on my projection screen as a fine spot with a smudgy faint follower or two. Best wishes, Bob

I saw two groups, each containing one spot at 1134UT. I was pleased to be able to see the new one on the eastern limb.

Skybrowser & Bob
Yes, I think I was lucky to image later in the day when the new Sunspot was a bit more obvious. But nice to know you both saw the Sunspots next day.
