Another Mars from 25/26 Feb

My first attempt at Mars this season. Must say I'm a bit disappointed. However I do seem to have recorded some bluish high-level clouds at the limbs - orographic clouds.

I used a Celestron Ultima x2 barlow to give me f24 for this image. I also tried my x4 Imagemate which gives me about f57 but the resulting preview image was of a jellyfish swimming in the sea

Yes I got the clouds too. A lot depends on seeing of course. I like the diagram Brian - where did you get that from?

The diagram looks like its from Mars Previewer II. Free software.

Its a cracking bit of software.

I had included a credit to Previewer II on the image, but somewhere 'twixt pen and caxton it dropped off! Paintshop can sometimes have a mind of its own (or maybe I'm just useless ). Anyway it's fixed now.

I find Previewer great for sorting out whats in view on the planet, and for planning the best times to see various features. I also use the Mars simulation on Calsky, which can be scaled in size and detail up to "Orbiter" if required.

Looking again at the image I can see that the region immediately south of Sinus Sabaeus, and right on the southern limb, is a yellow colour. In the past similar effects have been caused by huge dust-storms over the surface. I wonder if that is a dust-storm now?
