Sun in CaK and Ha - 12 Feb

Post by smerral »

The Ha sun was done with an 8 pane mosaic using ST102 and SM40 this time. Less resolution but quicker.

The large group which dominates the disc is AR11416. According to spaceweather:
For the second day in a row, sunspot AR1416 has doubled in size. Moreover, it has developed a "beta-gamma" magnetic field that harbors energy for M-class solar flares. Any such eruptions this weekend would be Earth directed as the sunspot turns to face our planet.
Here is a close up done with the PSTDS and 2.5x Powermate:

Dear Brian (smerral)
Excellent Sun Ha and Cak images you took on 12 th Feb.
They make me feel guilty because I haven't observed the Sun since 6th Feb myself.
Best wishes from Cliff
