Kaustav pointed me at an interesting bit of software this morning: timeline. It aims to do for time-based data what Google Maps has done for geographical data (the latter is the software behind the SPA BB user map).

Anyway, after a bit of programming, I managed to use it to give myself a timeline view of my observations. If you have a JavaScript-enabled browser (so far I've tested this with FireFox, Opera and Internet Explorer) you should find that you can use your mouse to drag the timeline backwards and forwards and that you can click on individual observations.

Today, after discussing a similar but different issue with a friend, I added another timeline index into my logs. This time it's a timeline of observations of active areas on the Sun, with an emphasis on getting an overview of how many days an active area hang around.
