A Stellarium telescope server for iOptron telescopes

Post by goodtime »

This post is a duplicate of one in 'Telescopes and Instruments', I forgot that the SPA forums had a separate forum for cumputers etc. I've done that before. Anyway, here it is in the right place:

Hi from across the pond,

I have an iOptron CubePro and always bemoaned the fact that there wasn't a Stellarium telescope server for it. I finally decided to do something about it. I got the source code for the Stellarium LX200 telescope server and modified it so it massages the commands before sending them to the

iOptron 8401 controller. I think it will work with any telescope that uses the 8401 hand controller. I don't know if it will work with later hand controllers, though I was told that the command set is the same, implying the possibility. The beauty of the telescope server is that no driver is required, it's simplicity in itself.

The result of my labors is called TelescopeServeriOptron (for Mac) or TelescopeServeriOptron.exe (for Windows), and is available in a zip file here: http://www.parallel-worlds.net/users/am ... server.zip. It is also available in the file section of the iOptron, Yahoo group. The zip file contains everything needed to run it, including Mac and Windows executables, as well as a .pdf document telling all about it. I've tested it on an iMac running OSX 10.6.8, a Macbook Air running OSX 10.8.5, and an HP laptop running Windows 7, and it works correctly in all cases, going to my iOptron CubePro. I have also been told that it works with the iOptron MiniTower.

If anyone sees any problems I'd appreciate an email.

Have fun!
