I really like this time of year, despite the lighter nights, it’s lovely to have a bit more time to watch the onset of twilight, and not to have to dress up in Winter kit to observe.

I spent a very pleasant hour observing the Moon on Saturday evening, as it approached first quarter. I managed to take this image using a Fuji compact digital camera, hand held at the eyepiece.

The skies were a pristine powder blue, at the time, and the crescent looked so sharp and clear; a brilliantine white with the subtle grey patches of the lunar seas. The view with the unaided eye is just as special. I experienced a real feeling of looking out into space.

Best wishes, Jeff.
