Tuesday, 5/3/19, Clear early morning, Jupiter bright in the south, and followed into daylight using 15x65 Acuter spotting scope from the back garden. From about 0640 until lost at 0725 UT, when I had to move the tripod when the planet disappeared behind the wall of the house. The Sun was then well up and I was unable to relocate the planet's very pale disc. Regards maf.

Low elevation planets have a mysterious, bewitching quality, don't you think?

That said, Mike, I'll be glad when we get some planets at a decent elevation again!

Most of my observing is now Crepuscular Astronomy - at dawn or dusk- with binoculars and low power spotting scopes, so low down bright objects near the horizon fit well with that. Objects high up can be a real pain in the neck - actually so - although I am aware that there are various methods of solving this, with low power and bright objects, there is little advantage in that for me. The magic of the half-light adds to it as well. I do make exceptions for binocular comets although really very bright ones near the horizon are to be preferred - I can think of just a few of those!!! Regards maf.
