17/1/19, 1655 + 1730 UT. Used 15-45x60 Nikon Spotter on a tripod and from the garden. Initial sighting against a brightish blue sky with the reddish colour of the star nicely shown. The Moon was Gibbous with Aristarchus near the terminator. Made a couple of sketches, and a camera snap, first with the star was perhaps 1 and a 1/2 lunar diameters below the Moon and later probably one lunar diameters below and by then was in line with the lunar 'cusps'. This was probably the closest they were together as later on when viewed in binoculars at the astronomy group meeting, they were very slowly distancing themselves. Later still the clear sky became rather murky. Regards maf.
