Mars and Neptune

Post by Paul Freeman »

I managed to locate Neptune last night around 6:00pm through my 80mm short focus 'scope. I was helped by it's close proximity to Mars. This is only the second time I have seen Neptune, the first being some years ago through my societies 12" reflector. I found it rather difficult at first, being blighted by street lights, Christmas house illuminations etc and a non too transparent sky. However, I was somewhat surprised by how faint it actually was although I must admit I didn't have much idea as to how faint mag.7.9 is! Pleased to have seen it though. Did anyone else spot it?

Thanks, Paul, I didn't realise it was so well placed. In a line with the Lambda star of Aquarius.

Next time, I shall be looking! I've yet to see Neptune through my telescope. Ta!
