Optus 20-60x60mm Spotting Scope at Aldi for £9.99!
According to someone over on the Stargazers Lounge forum... http://stargazerslounge.com/topic/195973-optus-20-60x60mm-scope-%C2%A3999/ ...there is an Optus spotting scope going half price for a tenner! Anyone tried one of these out? Is this on a par with the Lidl binoculars of the past? At a tenner,...

Re: Bresser 8x60 binoculars at Lidl (13/6-19/06/13)
Here's some thoughts on the 8x60's at Lidl. First off, here's a comment made bu user Ken31 on the Stargazers Lounge forum, in the Astro Lounge sub forum, in the thread entitled "Lidl 8x60 Binoculars" by RyanL . Right then. Based on my two previous reviews, here's the low-down (compared wit...

Re: Bresser 8x60 binoculars at Lidl (13/6-19/06/13)
Heads up to anyone going to have a look at these binoculars, they aren't actually available in Lidl until Monday 17th June. I was in looking for something else from the leaflet and they aren't in till Monday either! This isn't clear on the leaflet, but can be seen on the Lidl web site. Thanks for yo...

Re: Bresser 8x60 binoculars at Lidl (13/6-19/06/13)
@ David No way do my eyes open to 7.5mm! Having just passed the big 5-0 last year, that's not surprising! I read elsewhere about someone saying that Lidl had done a 10x50 binocular a few years ago for about 15GBP but they weren't up to much and had to be refunded. I myself currently use what are lab...

Bresser 8x60 binoculars at Lidl (13/6-19/06/13)
Following the thread last year about spotting scopes at Aldi here... http://forum.popastro.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=17204 ...I thought I would post the following to see what the binocular experts on this forum think. From this Thursday (13th June) to next Wednesday (19th June) Lidl in the UK have...

Re: PanSTARRS is still around!
Nice picture, Robin.
Is that two distinct tails I see, the main dust tail at the vertical, and a faint ion tail at the 'seven o'clock' position?

Re: Jessops spotting scope and binoculars
Hi David
It seems as if Jessops prices vary as much as petrol prices!
What make and model spotting scope do you have? It's a pity there isn't somewhere like "The Binocular Sky" site for spotting scopes that could be used astronomically.

Re: Jessops spotting scope and binoculars
I dare anyone to have a look on the Jessop site today for the current price of a 20-60x80 zoom spotting scope!
£159.99!
Is that the same model you bought, Mr Feist? Have you had a chance to test your bargain (
) on the night sky properly?

Re: Comet Pannstars
Managed to find Panstarrs again this evening (Mar 28) after some difficulty with patchy clouds, and because it has faded quite markedly since my last sighting on March 20th. I eventually picked it up forming a handy triangle with Pi and Delta Andromedae in the same 7x50s field of view around 19:35 ...

Best of luck tonight if anyone is fortunate enough to get a clear spell. Not here, cloudy and smirry rain in Central Scotland I'm afraid!

Re: Comet Pannstars
Spotted the Comet about 19:17 UT. :) :) :) Using 10x50's, drove to nearby moor with clear western horizon by 19:00 UT. After nearly 20 minutes of scanning, found comet in the twilight with the binocs at 19:17 UT. My observation was very similar to Paul's and Alistair's. Altitude was about two finger...

Moon occulation of Mercury 14th November 2012
I've just noticed that on Stellarium, it shows the just past New Moon occulting Mercury this morning about 9:26GMT in the UK. Anyone going to try attempt to capture it? Moon VERY close to Sun by the looks of it. Take care, and sorry about the abrupt late post. I didn't know about this one at all.

After reading Markt' s post I grabbed my binocs, jumped in the car and drove to where I could see the horizon. That clear spell had drifted to my location and I could see the Moon, Venus and Jupiter clearly. I didn't get to see the emergence but the view a few minutes later was still impressive. Th...
