Interesting that you should link to the sinhalaya.com site for those quotes. They have simply lifted my own entire interview with Wickramasinghe from last Monday plus the statement that Cardiff University gave me! Rather naughty of them and I have complained.

There is a very interesting article in The Independent about the surge in interest in astronomy including telescope sales and visits to local societies and observatories.

Well done for the guerilla tactics promoting the SPA, Cliff. Glad you didn't get yourself arrested!

The BBC will be delighted that these programmes are "going wrong" so spectacularly. The first Wonders series "went wrong" so badly indeed that it sold to countries around the world, was a BBC2 ratings success and led to the commissioning of the follow-up series that has now begun. And Stargazing Liv...

SPA Convention 2011

I hope those who attended enjoyed the Convention in Cambridge on Saturday. I couldn't make it but if anyone would like to do a quick write up, we'll be glad to post it on the website (I already have some photos!)

Thank you, David. That list is a very useful resource. I'm actually very lucky to live close to the Natural History Museum, being in south west London, so am spoilt for meteorites!

What a beautiful and fascinating object. I'm guessing that after the exhibition, which I won't be able to get to, the meteorite will return to obscurity in York. What a shame that would be. Wouldn't it be better if it could remain on view in Middlesbrough?

I have only dabbled, a long time ago, but there is a program called Keith's Image Stacker which does something similar to Registax on the PC.

Thanks for the feedback, Brian. I hope we can (and I'm sure we will) still show off particularly great members' observations. I wasn't so keen on the forum topics box before because it tended to highlight bizarre items that were not really representative of what the forum was about.

Brian has been an amateur astronomer since he was a kid and he was inspired by former Popular Astronomy editor Ian Ridpath's Stars and Planets book. I've seen photos of the night sky that he has taken himself. I suppose the newbies who join the SPA to twitter or whatever will soon disappear. No one ...

Re: Stargazing Live

This is my first post on this forum. People are giving various views on the recent series. I for one found it excellent - so much so that it has reignited a childhood interest in astronomy at 36 years old. I have bought a telescope, joined the SPA, and now am waiting for a clear sky. If it hadn't b...
