Thanks for the fast replies. This really is a great forum. I think that I'll be able to manage setting circles. As for drift alignment... Ouch! My brain hurts, and I only scanned down briefly :) It looks like I'll be leaving my attempts at astro-photography to the times I take the 'scope to darker s...

I'm off to look at a 200 on an EQ3 mount in the morning (Friday). I have no intention of buying it as it's way over-priced, but it will give me a fairly accurate idea of how much room it will take up. If all goes to plan I intend to order the 200 HEQ5 from a reputable online dealer soon. Does anyone...

polar alignment and setting circles

It looks like I've decided on the 'scope to buy.
Now a couple of questions:-

First a stoopid one:
I can't see the pole star from my tiny garden. So how do I polar align?
Is there an alternative way of doing it

What are setting circles... will this be obvious when I finally get the 'scope?

I have a lot of hobbies, space is running out :) The 'scope and the mount might have to live in serperate room though...

I'm looking to buy a 'scope. I already have a Meade ETX-70 which is nice and easy but not exactly the greatest scope in the world. It's GOTO feature is the only reason I bought it. It's OK but I want something bigger... Ooh err missus. I have two 'scope in mind. A) The Skywatcher Explorer 130 PM... ...

Hello, This is my first post, so be gentle with me. Many years ago I was on a party boat on the River Severn near Worcester. I had drunk the best part of a bottle of Smirnoff. I went to the open rear of the boat to get air. It was about 11:30 PM In the sky I say dancing lights. Different colours. Da...
