Observed tonight (2021 April 22) at 2210 UT with 15x63 bins. I made it mag 8.0 with averted vision. Bob

Spots 22 April 21

I counted 18 spots in 3 groups at 0943 UT in excellent seeing and transparency with 60mm aperture by projection. The departing group at the preceding limb looked quite complex and the mid-disc group has lots of tiny spots. The following group consists of a single spot as far as I can see.

Re: The Sun - 19th April

You are getting a good series of images in this spell of clear weather Cliff, Today (20/4/21 at 1008 UT) I counted 3 spot groups - a new single spot has appeared at the following limb - with the 2 older groups on the disc showing more complexity: 17 spots in all counted by projection with 60mm apert...

Re: The Sun - 16th April

You catch the new group at the f. limb distinctly Cliff. Looked today (17 April at 0852 UT) with 60mm F15 by projection and counted three dark spots and a faint smudgy one there. On the p. hemisphere I could only just make out 2 groups consisting of one very faint, fuzzy spot and a farther preceding...

sky browser, I project via an old Celestron diagonal. I think your eyepiece end is not good as we’ve mentioned before. Bob

Re: The SUN - 15th April

Interesting Cliff. I counted three small groups this morning (16/4/21 at0919 UT) with 60mm - 11 ill-defined little spots. One group is noticeable at the f. limb with a string of darker spots. A very very faint group of a couple of fuzzy spots is just visible near mid-disc. The "old" group ...

Re: The SUN - 14th April

Thanks for putting this image on the forum Cliff, I was beginning to think I was the only one to see this little group. It's still there this morning by the way (15/4/21 at 0855 UT I counted 8 spots in excellent seeing with 60mm aperture F15 by projection). Regards, Bob

Little sunspot group

The little group of spots that has persisted since at least the 11th of April is still there. I counted 4 dark spots and 4 faint little smudges today at 0855 UT by projection with 60mm aperture. They are arranged in a set-square pattern more or less mid-disc and a little south.

Mike I’m familiar with the phrase “armchair astronomy” but you seem to have invented bedbound astronomy! Kind thoughts, Bob

I made an estimate on 2021 April 12 at 2130 UT, 15x63 binoculars, by averted vision. Magnitude 8.3. The reliability I rate as low in the conditions. Bob

Re: The SUN - 11th April

Hello Cliff, there was a small group of inconspicuous spots on the preceding side of the disc when I looked in the morning (of the 11th). I counted three. I tried to see them on your white light image but I couldn't make them out. Today, 12th at about 1015 UT, the group was still there, a bit more p...

There was an interesting mention of another possible meteorite fall in the UK on last night’s show (in the viewer comments). See my further post on this topic in the “General” section. Bob

Another possible meteorite fall

...In the south-west. After a fireball was glimpsed on 20 March and sonic booms were heard in daytime it is thought that meteor fragments might have fallen over a stretch of The New Forest from Verwood in Dorset to Romney in Hampshire. Bob

Re: Nova in Cassiopeia

Skybrowser, This is indeed a tricky one to estimate and I have exactly the same impression as you - at times it glints brighter and then fainter - due to scintillation (lowish altitude seeing). And this makes estimation a problem. Repeated comparison tonight, 3 April at 2145 UT, with the 8.06 mag st...
