They have been on about trying this local to me (not too far from you)...Stoke on Trent....a lot of people are complaining... We've had a few good nights the last week but the light pollution is driving me nuts. At the moment, I have some engineering reports to finish, but as soon as they are done.....

I know what you mean Daz, but I use AutoCAD and Solidworks for work (I'm a CAD Technician). AutoCAD has a mac version but Solidworks dosen't (but the subscription we have on the software allows me to run them at home legally)....Keynote blows Powerpoint out of the water everytime and being able to m...

I have to admit, I haven't looked into mac software yet, but alternative.net points to a lot of mac software alternatives. If you go down the windows route, try virtualbox which lets you run windows within osx so you don't have to partition or run bootcamp. I use autocad and solidworks through it wi...

That's the sort of thing I'm looking for. The majority of the views I've found about light pollution filters is they are no good, as David said. With the introduction of low energy street lights, etc..I can see why. What I'm after is a filter to enhance nebula (esp. Orion). The info I have found is ...

I have had a skywatcher 130p scope along with a copy of turn left at Orion. The book recommends a nebula filter (an OIII) but reading up on tinternet, it looks like these are better with larger scopes and UHC filters for smaller scopes. Does anyone have a recommendation for which one to get as the i...

Thanks for the welcomes :) I gave up with the iPhone app (star walk). It could not make it's mind up where it was, so I've been out and bought a planisphere which is far better. Also made a trip upto Stockport yesterday to have a look at some equipment. The skywatcher 130 has caught my eye. A very s...

Hi (Introduction)
Thought I'd do a quick introduction. I'm Andy from Newcastle under lyme in Staffordshire and after a visit to Jodrell bank and an amazing clear night camping with no light pollution, I have found myself becoming more and more fascinated with the stars and planets. I've been looking at telescopes but...
