Re: Luna Cognita -Book

Glad to hear it got sorted out. I was going to buy the books off Amazon until I read your posts. I ended up ordering the books from Waterstones online on Monday and they were delivered on Thursday this week. I cant fault the online service from Waterstones, I got all 3 volumes, well packaged and und...

Re: Mars, Jupiter & Saturn conjunction

07/04/2020. 05:20 BST. Went outside and took a few minutes in the garden before heading off to work. The sky was clear and there was a covering of ground frost. I got my first unaided eye sighting of Jupiter, Saturn and Mars all together. The trio had all cleared local rooftops, and made for a nice ...

Sundogs Sunday 20th May 19:20 BST

20/05/18 19:20 BST I noted a pair of bright sundogs in the evening sky through thin light cloud as the sun was going down. The sun dog to the left hand (east side) of the solar disk was quite vivid. The sun dog to the right hand side (west side) was not as pronounced but was there. You could also ma...

Re: Bright (mag 6) nova in Perseus

Hi Bob, I've just printed off the AAVSO chart and compared it to my sketch I made last night and the position of the nova tallies on the sketch and chart. I'm quite pleased with this, as I spend most of the time with the moon & planets. Looking back this is the first nova I've ever looked at Cliff's...

Re: Bright (mag 6) nova in Perseus

Hi Bob, 2018-04-03 : 22:55UT : 15x70 binoculars Good clear sky to the NW. Using the finder charts & RA & Dec info provided by Robin Scagell I was confident that I was looking in the right area of the sky. I did struggle to identify the nova, I was expecting it to be brighter than it was. I noted it ...

Re: The Return of Venus!

20/03/18 - 18:30. Finally some break in the clouds over east Leeds. Managed to get my first sight of Venus through some breaks in the cloud, mercury was obscured by cloud though.

Re: Venus & Mars in the morning

Hi Mike,
Your are correct it was to the upper right, it was early in the morning though! 56yo & I still can't tell the difference between left & right. Time for a lie down I think.

Re: Venus & Mars in the morning

2017-10-06 05:00 UT Another clear morning, 2 on the trot, almost unheard from where I live! Venus & Mars are prominent in the east again. Mars is now to the upper left of Venus at about the 2 o'clock position. The pair seem slightly closer together than they did yesterday. I estimate the separation ...

Re: Venus & Mars in the morning

2017-10-05 05:15 GMT. The strong wind & rain during the night had cleared leaving a clear sky to the east. Walking to work I noticed Venus & Mars have cleared trees and roofs' and are prominent in the sky. I would estimate that Venus is about mag -3 and is the upper of the 2 planets, I would estimat...

Re: SW 127mm MAK Altaz goto handset ??

Hi Eddie,
Had a few problems with sending a PM. But Brian's has listed exactly what I was going to say. The rate button is number 2 on the handset and the slewing speed is set by selecting 0-9.

Best Regards

Re: SW 127mm MAK Altaz goto handset ??

Hi Eddie, I've used the same scope for about 18 months now, as you say you do get some really good views through it. The handset instruction for AZ goto mounts describes the handset function keys from about p6 onwards. I downloaded the manual from the SW website. This was the first goto scope I had ...

Skywatcher 180 maksutov

I have a problem aligning my finder to the main optics. I need to adjust the finder shoe that is screwed to the rear casting of my 180 maksutov to compensate for the small angle on the casting Does anyone know if the 2 screws that attach the shoe are screwed into tapped blind holes or do the screws ...

Re: Part Problem

Apologies if I'm missing something. If I'm looking at the photgraphs correctly, the spigot on the yoke seems to sit into the cup on the tripod head. The bolt holds the 2 parts together. If the bolt is too long the yoke will be retained but it will rock. If you shortened the thread on the bolt in sta...

Aluminium EQ5 mount - stripping down and regreasing

Hi,
Does anyone have any ideas, instructions or guidance as to how to strip down an EQ5 mount and remove the existing grease which is now almost like tar and to re-grease it.

Any advice would be really appreciated.

Andy
