Dear Baberskum,

How did you take the first Milky Way picture? Length and number of individual exposures and film speed?

I am hoping to achieve similar results with the same camera but on a GEM from Cork or maybe Waterford in early August when there is a New Moon.

NLC

Dear Frank Just beautiful. I only hope that the weather is good for the first two weeks of August as we will be in county Cork and Waterford hoping for just one clear night when the moon is not up so I can get some Milky Way shots. I too have a 20" but will only be able to bring along a 70mm plus DS...

Great pic, but can't you do anything about the light? We go to Ireland a lot for summer hols and the dark skies are a real bonus but I remember a security light being on all night attached to a house, a farm and illuminating an office block. But what can one do? I felt as an Englishman on holiday I ...

Earth's axial tilt

Dear Colleagues, Am I correct, at least according to currently accpeted theory, that the axial tilt of Earth is due to the collision that created the moon, c.4 billion years ago. I would very much like to know and a reference to that fact would be most useful for a novel theory I am developing. I wo...

Having read most of Dawkins, including "The God Delusion" and more recently, "The Language of God" by Francis Collins, co-author of the Human Genome Project, I have to say that Dawkins puts forward a much more convincing argument for the non-existence of a God, than Collins does for the opposite vie...

I am planning a break later this year at the same site, for some astronomy, so will be very interested in your report. Steve Certainly. Expect a detailed report. Must persuade family that 20" is essential. Failing that will take the 6" refractor (which I am sure will please my fellow campers) Phil

Thanks to everyone for your thoughts. I will definitely post a report (pending clear skies) but I have to persuade my wife that we can fit the scope in the car along with that other non-essential items - 3 children and the TENT!. I cant speak highly enough of aperture. M13 the other night through th...

Holiday in Bude, Cornwall

We are about to take a holiday camping in Bude. I have had a look at the dark sky map and it looks very good. Anyone out there got any more detaield knowledge re real level of light pollution? Basically, is it worthwhile taking the 20" Dob? Of course it is (Ed). Staying at Bude Meadows campsite Than...
