Polar aligning EQ1 table top mount + camera

I need to know how to polar align an EQ1 table top mount so I can take some wide field shots with my canon + 50 mm lens. (while on a trip to rural site in south of France...) the mount is motorised so tracking won't be a problem, but what I want to know is how to align it. I'm not going to have a sc...

Thanks for that.....I've not gone blind.... I am still trying my hand at webcam imaging with it, and only figured out how to get a decent image of surface detail the other day. (I had been over exposing before). What I noticed was that I could pick up a filament quite nicely, but on moving the scope...

Coronado Maxscope diagonal problems?

I have a second hand Coronado Maxscope 40 and I have noticed that there seems to be some discoloration in the diagonal. Not sure of the technical language to use, but I'm talking about the end that fits into the optical tube, not the part where the eyepiece fits. There seems to be an irregular clear...

LRGB - how to do exactly?

I have taken a series of images of saturn - IF filter, R, G, B filter. Do I get the luminance from the IF stack in Registax and then combine all three images in something like photoshop?
Hope I don't sound too naive but am new to all this.
TIA for any input

Celestron power tank question

Greetings to all I gave my newly acquired celestron power tank its first run last night. Running the drive for my LX10 and an Orion dew heater on it I got about 3.5-4 hours before it ran out. Is that a normal time for that kind of usage? To prolong useage would there be any advantage in continuing t...

Which lens for Canon 1000D for piggybacking?

On reccommendation I have just got a canon 1000d body only. I want to start out by piggy backing on my scope to take some shots of constellations, etc. But, of course, i don't have a lens yet. Any recommendations of what size and type I should get?
TIA

Dew....

As a new SCT owner I'm running into the problem of dew... I have a dew shield (i.e. the thing you wrap round the end of the scope...) which may be improving the problem, but is by no means an adequate solution. As I start looking at zappers and the ilk what I want to know is are there any models tha...

thanks

Thanks for that, interesting there seems to be confusion about dustcaps for eyepieces themselves, and dustcaps for the eyepiece holder/barrel (whatever it's called) on the telescope.

Dust caps

A minor irritation in life, but I thought it was time to try and do something about it. I have two second hand scopes, a 10" dob and 8" Meade both of which came without dust caps (ie the thing that goes over the eyepiece tube when you don't have an eyepiece in....). So I have "sacrificed" two old lo...

Advice needed on Barlows

I am starting out on imaging (planets + moon) with my Meade LX10 - 8" and a Philips toucam.
The barlow that came with the scope (second hand) looks a bit of a write off, scratched and dirty, so my question is what make and size Barlow would be recommended for imaging planets.

RA / DEC locks and hand controller

call me stupid but: I am just getting my LX10 8" set up, and am reading about the RA and DEC locks. But what the manual doesn't say is am I supposed to unlock them to permit automatic tracking or to use the handcontroller (i.e. the computerised control panel). In other words to the locks refer only ...
