Managed to see a few Geminids tonite as it was clear for a couple of hours here in kent. Mostly 2 or 3 mag fast from Auriga going south of Cassiopeia, but saw 2 very bright (-2 to -3) slower meteors that traversed 60deg of sky for about 1-2 sec and left a train that lasted a couple of secs. You can also get a brand new Tal or Meade x3 barlow from Pulsar-optical.co.uk for £29.49 delivered. Shame you sold your Tal x3 for £25 back in May

Macroviewing is the opposite of Microviewing. That means large field of view (like with bins) versus very small field of view like X300 mag in an 8" reflector. So 5 deg fov vs 0.1 deg fov for example

As long as u keep the caps on eps then no reason at all not to keep them in a pocket or two.

i never bother with ep trays. Just keep em in your pocket or have another system that enables location (red lite for example). A barlow and 2 or 3 well chosen eps should normally suffice for an observing session plus a set of bins or spotting scope for macroviewing!!!

To all the posters who didn't like my advice then remember 'thenagus' only has a £150 budget. I was of the view that spotting scopes of quality are relatively pricey??? Clearly David Frydman is a learned gent but I dont think a newbie would know some of the terms used such as Clave & Slik, or have a...

For portability get a skywatcher 80/90mm refractor on an EQ1 for about £70 on ebay or ukastrobuysell or even here. Brand new only cost about £120. Alternatively you can get a 114mm reflector for about same prices secondhand /new. Forget all this bunkum about spotting scopes and camera tripods.
