Whatever we might think of the glitzy presentation (which I find entertaining), Professor Brian Cox is doing a great public outreach job. He is a gifted science/astronomy/physics communicator and for those of us interested in that stuff, it can only be good. Prof Brian was on Chris Evans Radio 2 thi...

Well, we here liked it tonight (and didn't fall asleep). Quite a junket of course (yes, I'm jealous!). The prof seems a nice (and talented) bloke. Some don't like it, but you could always follow him on Twitter! (he tweets with our Suthers) Join almost 34,000 others.. http://twitter.com/profbriancox ...

I totally realise I'm a cheapskate miser, but I have produced wonderful stuff with the (free) GIMP image software.

And it's good to support the open source community (IMO), who make this for everyone.

Hi Peter, Recreating the images of important people from the past.. what a wonderful idea! I prefer your second version, which I think suggests "I'm all knowing". I listened to the recent Bragg history of the Royal Society and it was clear (from that), Hooke was the "glue" who got the RS started and...

I've just looked in the admin panel. Avatars can be enabled, if wanted.

The only automated restriction we have, is over their maximum size (both pixels and file size).

So we would also need some guidelines as to what was acceptable (subject matter and style).

Hi George,

Thank you. Yours is the best "opening new doors" post, I've seen in many a while.

I have not got my head around it all, just yet (I admit). But I can see this is astounding.

Cheers,
Kevin

Hi Geoff, I am involved with a local school astronomy society also. ( Cadsas ). It's at Cranbrook, Kent. We have been going for four years now and there is wonderful teacher support from the school (that is a key factor). However, it's still difficult to involve the students. You might want to consi...

Hi, Excellent! Thanks for posting your DBK21 image capture here. It's North to the bottom (?) So I think it corresponds very well with Peter Grego's sketch on the 20th January, of his Northern Polar Cap irregularity, reported here.. http://www.popastro.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=13395 Great stuff. Hi Dave,

Well done for getting started with the new camera so quickly (and sorry for my slightly grumpy comment :) )

Perhaps we should have members image albums here? Might encourage more pics.

All the best

Robin, Just wondering if this could be an interesting/fascinating/useful topic for an online survey? Perhaps, a "Was the Sun was out for you today?" page. Or "Was the sky clear today?" (also, with where you are in the World) Heck, that sounds like more work for me! Anyway, just a thought... Kevin

Hi Dave, Surely you can hitch it to a computer via the USB wire, and use the Remote Capture software (supplied, I think)? Specs From the PC, you can control the camera remotely and use whatever exposure time you want (it even has an on-screen timer). (Works a treat, with my Canon 1000D) Best, Kevin
