Re: DSLR Moon Photo
Thanks David. It's a prime lens, the Sigma f4.5 500mm lens, which has very recently been discontinued (replaced by a an f4 version). This is the one I have and used for this photo:

Re: Moon Photo 12-11-2013
Yes, that is very nice. Did you do anything special to get good focus? Regards, Many thanks Brian, appreciated :) No, nothing special, just ensured all was properly mounted and stable on the tripod, used a cable release and the 'mirror up' system on the camera to help eliminate any shutter and othe...

Moon Photo 12-11-2013
Hello
As the sky was actually clear for a bit last night, I took some photos of the Moon at 4:52pm yesterday.
Nikon D800 Sigma 120-300mm lens & 2x tele-extender at 600mm 1/320 f8 ISO160
As ever, comments and criticism warmly welcomed and encouraged.
Thanks for looking.

Re: Is GOTO Destroying our Night Sky Understanding?
I have recently sold off all my GOTO scopes and gone back to my roots as it were. I've done this for a very simple reason - I can navigate my way around the night sky faster (and more quietly) than the GOTOs. I have clockdrives on my scopes to track objects once I have aquired them, and that's it. T...

Re: The Moon Sunday 17-02-2013
Hello Many thanks for the kind comments, and good to be back :D With modern lenses and their vibration reductions systems its possible now to get really sharp, clear photos handheld and at lower shutter speeds than ever before. Fortunately, with the moon being a bright object the shutter speed doesn...

Re: Jupiter 17 Feb 20.00 UT
Nice image Brian, given the conditions last night. Great for observing, but as you mention, the very high fine cloud wouldn't help you when imaging.

Hello I finally managed to get out last night, for the first time in ages, and do some observing, (mainly Jupiter) but couldn't resist grabbing a quick photo of the moon. Taken using a Nikon D800 DSLR, Sigma 150-500mm lens at 500mm, ISO400, f/8 1/500, handheld. Comments and criticisms welcomed. Many...
